Police accuse man of damaging cars, trying to bite officer, licking man on the face

Police arrested a man Tuesday they say tried to bite an officer, jumped on a police car and licked a man’s face.

According to police, they were called to Southeast 9th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard a little after 3:30 p.m. on a report a man was assaulting a woman.

When police arrived, the man took off, climbed a tree, jumped on a police car and then fled into a restaurant. Police said employees of the restaurant were able to get the man out of their kitchen.

After a struggle police said they got the man on the ground, but not before he tried to bite a police officer.

Police said the suspect also damaged three other vehicles, attacked a man and licked his face.

Medics had to sedate 32-year-old Matthew Joseph Medlin before they could take him to the hospital to find out what kind of drugs he had taken, police said.

Medlin was released from the hospital and taken to the Multnomah County Jail where he faces charges of second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, attempted assault on a public safety officer, second-degree disorderly conduct and harassment.

He has a slew of previous charges, including sex abuse, burglary and assault. According to the Oregonian, Medlin was sentenced to a new intensive probation program earlier this year following his most recent arrest.
