Central PA 4th Fest returning to 'all its glory,' organizers say

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — The Fourth of July spectacular in Centre County, known as Fourth Fest, will be returning to its former glory as an all-day event in State College and on the Penn State campus. Due to the pandemic, and other issues, Fourth Fest was scaled down in recent years. Organizers announced that the Firecracker 4k run and walk, the Independence Day parade, music, food trucks, and other festivities will all be returning this Fourth of July, along with the famed fireworks show in the evening.

Kenny Pickett receives team ROTY award

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Steelers announced earlier this week that quarterback Kenny Pickett won the "Joe Greene Great Performance Award" as the team's Rookie of the Year. The award was established in 1984 and is presented to the team's top rookie performer at the end of each season. Pickett became just the third Steelers' QB to win the award, joining Kordell Stewart and Ben Roethlisberger. "It's a huge honor," said Pickett.

New beauty salon aims to be fun attraction in Somerset

Somerset County, PA (WJAC) — Friday was the official grand opening of "Hair by Hayley," a new beauty salon along North Center Avenue in Somerset. The owner, Hayley Carlin, says her mission "is to provide a positive oasis for clients, with a concentrated effort to promote inner confidence, self-love, and wholistic revitalization." Carlin tells 6News she wants it to be more than just a place to get your hair done.

Wrong-way crash in tunnel critically injures 1

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Police say a wrong-way driver collided head-on with another car in a western Pennsylvania tunnel, critically injuring the other driver. State police in Pittsburgh say the vehicle entered Route 376 traveling west in the eastbound lanes shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday. Police said the car entered the Fort Pitt tunnel under Mount Washington, still traveling in the wrong direction, and collided head-on with another car. The 36-year-old driver of the other car was taken to a local hospital and listed in critical condition with multiple injuries.

A heavily redacted Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) report is offering a deeper look into Adams County Children and Youth Services (CYS). The County’s District Attorney Brian Sinnett on Tuesday said Adams County CYS failed 15-month-old Iris Mummert, who was murdered by her mother in 2020. After the death of a child that is in the care of CYS, the county must put together a report about the incident and make note of what can be done better next time.

Pickup vs. Freightliner crash on PA Turnpike leaves one dead: PSP

FULTON COUNTY, Pa. — One man is dead following a vehicle accident in Fulton County after his pickup truck collided with a Freightliner truck Wednesday evening, according to Pennsylvania State Police. According to a press release, Richard Spencer, 41, was traveling east in an unknown travel lane on I76 when he traveled across the shoulder and entered the grass to the south of the roadway. State police say Spencer then went on an embankment before rolling over, ejecting him from the back window of his vehicle.
