PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to keep linebacker T.J. Watt in Pittsburgh through the 2021 season. They exercised Watt's fifth-year option from his rookie contract. The Steelers will pay Watt a base salary of $1.7 million for the 2020 season. Watt's fifth-year option base salary is unknown, at this time. Watt is coming off an impressive season. He recorded 14.5 sacks, 36 quarterback hits, 14 tackles for loss, eight forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.

ConocoPhillips is buying Marathon Oil in an all-stock deal valued at approximately $17.1 billion as energy prices rise and big oil companies reap massive profits. The deal is valued at $22.5 billion when including $5.4 billion in debt. Crude prices have jumped more than 12% this year and the cost for a barrel rose above $80 this week. Oil majors put up record profits after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and while those numbers have slipped, there has been a surge in mergers between energy companies flush with cash.

QUALLA BOUNDARY, N.C. (WLOS) — Saturday marked a historic day for North Carolina as the first medical cannabis dispensary held its grand opening in Cherokee. A ribbon cutting was held at 9:30 a.m. outside The Great Smoky Cannabis Dispensary in the Qualla Boundary. People all across the mountains were lined up outside, eagerly waiting to purchase the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians' packaged cannabis. Forrest Parker, the general manager for the Great Smoky Cannabis Company, said that they are always striving to improve the quality of their products.

HARRISBURG, Pa (WJAC) — Officials with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections announced the first COVID-19 inmate death at SCI Forest. Authorities say the inmate, whose name will not be released, was a 65-year-old male with underlying health conditions who passed away at a local hospital on Tuesday. Officials say he was serving a 10 to 20-year sentence for burglary and had been at the facility since September of this year.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC) — State High graduate Ian Hendrickson-Smith returns to the area Friday for a concert at the State Theatre. Hendrickson-Smith is a five-time Grammy winner and member of The Tonight Show Band. The saxophonist has worked with many of the best in the music industry, including Bruno Mars, Amy Winehouse, Ed Sheeran and Lady Gaga. Hendrickson-Smith says the most satisfying feeling of coming home is giving back to the next generation.

Eli Thompson's big smile and positive disposition showed the exceptional spirit of a little boy born with big challenges. Eli was born in 2015 with congenital Arhinia, an extremely rare condition which causes the absence of a nose, nasal or sinus cavities.
