Nursing and Personal care homes reach "critical" point amid more closures

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Finding personal care for a loved one can be hard enough. That process became increasingly more difficult following the Covid-19 Pandemic. The Pennsylvania Assisted Living Association says more than 230 personal care homes have closed across the state since the pandemic began. M. Veil Griffith, an administrator with the Cambria County Area Agency on Aging says, "It boils down to a financial problem." The Atrium, a personal care home in Johnstown, is one of the most recent facilities to announce it's closing its doors.

What does paused bomb shipment say about US-Israel relations?

(TND) — The U.S. reportedly stopped a bomb shipment to Israel over concerns about how the 2,000-pound munitions would be used in densely populated Gaza. The Associated Press cited an official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, and White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined comment to reporters Wednesday. President Joe Biden’s administration is also concerned Israel will launch a full-scale assault on the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where more than 1 million civilians are sheltering.

CNN anchor welcomes new baby on bathroom floor

(WJLA) — CNN anchor and Chief National Affairs Analyst Kasie Hunt and her husband, Matthew Mario Rivera, welcomed their second baby on the bathroom floor of their D.C. home last week. Rivera delivered their daughter, Grey Hunt Rivera, on March 1 after a 13-minute labor. The baby came one day before Hunt's scheduled C-section. Gov. Tom Wolf attends Penn State's AG Progress Days

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Penn State's AG Progress Days continued Wednesday and family farms, agriculture business and the younger generations were hot topics during the annual government luncheon. On day two of the AG Progress Days, Gov. Tom Wolf dropped by for a visit. Among the issues he stressed, was the importance of maintaining the state's agriculture industry, along with keeping the younger generation interested in the industry. In recent years, the industry has lost more than 6,000 farms.

Medics treat children after elementary student brings marijuana edibles to school

ALGODONES, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — Bernalillo Public Schools in New Mexico are investigating after a student brought edible THC infused candies to Algodones Elementary School and shared them with 14 other students. Algodones is located north of Albuquerque. Bernalillo Public Schools made an announcement about the incident on Facebook on Monday. The students were evaluated and supervised by medical personnel, according to the post. The district is collaborating with medical personnel and law enforcement to investigate.

NH sex offender accused of exposing himself at Penn State library

University Park, PA (WJAC) — A homeless man is behind bars in Centre County after he allegedly exposed himself to a woman at a Penn State library. Police say on Wednesday night, 35-year-old Brandon Taylor allegedly watched pornographic material on a computer at the Pattee Library. Police say Taylor then reportedly exposed himself to a woman and asked multiple times for her to perform a sex act on him. Police say Taylor is also a registered sex offender in New Hampshire and that he failed to notify authorities that he is in Pennsylvania.

Officials celebrate newly renovated Cambria Co. court annex

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — Old building, new purpose. Cambria County officials say they recently purchased a medical building in Ebensburg and renovated it into a court annex. Officials say that the new building, located off of Route 22, will be home to Cambria County’s domestic relations and adult probation offices, and the day reporting center. President of the Cambria County Board of Commissioners office Thomas Chernisky hosted the opening ceremony and talks about the work that will be done inside the building.

Ex-Philadelphia labor leader convicted of embezzling from union to pay for home renovations, meals

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Former Philadelphia labor leader John "Johnny Doc" Dougherty and a codefendant were convicted Thursday of using more than $650,000 in union funds for personal use, marking the second conviction federal prosecutors have secured against the long-powerful figure since a sweeping 2019 indictment. Dougherty, who led Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for nearly three decades, was convicted of conspiracy, embezzlement and dozens of other charges by a jury after a monthlong trial.

Local business hosts in-store gob fest, new way to celebrate the local treat
