Johnstown man accused of raping woman in basement of Cambria Co. apartment

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say a Johnstown man is jailed following an investigation into allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman in the basement of a local apartment. Police say in late April, officers with the Stonycreek Township police department were contacted to investigate an alleged sexual assault at an apartment building along Emilio Street. Investigators say the victim told police that she reportedly met the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Raemil Morris, on Facebook.

Supreme Court backs NRA; ruling could impact future cases

WASHINGTON (TND) — On Thursday, The Supreme Court unanimously backed The National Rifle Association in a First Amendment ruling that could make it harder for state regulators to pressure advocacy groups. "It's about our First Amendment right in this country to free speech," said Betsy Brantner Smith, Spokesperson for The National Police Association. The ruling allows the NRA to continue itslawsuit against New York official Maria Vullo, who urged insurance companies to cut ties with the gun rights groups following the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida in 2018.

Altoona Burger King closed after car crashes through wall

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Employees at an Altoona Burger King have a bit of a mess on their hands after a car came crashing into the restaurant Tuesday. It happened at the Burger King on W. Plank Road. Management tells 6 News that a driver hit a concrete barrier in the parking lot and accelerated right into the side of the building, taking out a panel of windows and some brickwork.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden on Friday bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom on 19 people, including civil rights icons such as the late Medgar Evers, prominent political leaders such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. James Clyburn, and actor Michelle Yeoh. Biden said the recipients of the nation's highest civilian honor are "incredible people whose relentless curiosity, inventiveness, ingenuity and hope have kept faith in a better tomorrow.

Ford recalls over 109K top-selling vehicles

DETROIT (WKRC) - The Ford Motor Company has recalled over 100,000 top-selling vehicles. According to USA Today,Ford Motor Company announced on May 24, that it is recalling 109,283 Lincoln Aviator SUVs over an issue with the rearview camera. Per the outlet, the accessory protocol image module (APIM) can possibly be affected by electromagnetic interference from a cellphone inside the vehicle. The interaction can cause the rearview camera image to flicker or become distorted, which can increase the risk of a crash.

LCB says no liquor license for Sheetz located next to 2 Centre County schools

WINGATE, Pa. (WJAC) — A Centre County judge has upheld a state liquor control board decision not to grant a liquor license to a Sheetz store that's located next to schools in the Bald Eagle Area School District. The Sheetz on South Eagle Valley Road in Wingate is located next to an elementary school and high school. Sheetz appealed the LCB decision. In rejecting the appeal, the judge cited the fact that the store is located next to not one but two school buildings.

Penn State, football coach James Franklin agree to 10-year contract extension

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WJAC) — Penn State’s James Franklin has agreed to the terms of a new 10-year contract to remain as the head football coach of the Nittany Lions through 2031. The terms were approved by the Subcommittee on Compensation of the Penn State Board of Trustees Tuesday. The new contract increases his pay from $5.5 million this year to $7 million per year, plus an annual $500,000 retention bonus at the end of each calendar year and other performance bonuses.

Woman abducted in one of state's biggest manhunts reflects 50 years later

HUNTINGDON -- It was one of the biggest manhunts of the time. On May 11, 1966, Peggy Ann Bradnick was abducted after getting off the school bus in Shade Gap by a man with a sawed off shotgun. She spent eight days with William Hollinbaugh, now dubbed "8 days of terror." She was beaten, abused and starved at just 17 years old. She lived to tell her story and it's one she's always believed was orchestrated by God.

4 PA PetSmart employees charged after toy poodle dies during grooming visit

PITTSBURGH (WPXI) — Four former PetSmart employees in Pittsburgh have been charged in the death of a toy poodle. A.J. Ross brought her toy poodle Kobe to this PetSmart store to be groomed last November. When she came to pick up the dog, he was dead. Ross then rushed Kobe to a nearby animal hospital, but after 15 minutes of CPR, hospital staff pronounced the dog dead. All four former employees are facing felony animal cruelty and neglect charges for their alleged role in the dog's death, which happened during a nail trim.
