State police in Cambria County release their 5 most wanted

EBENSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — Pennsylvania State Police in Ebensburg released their five most wanted Wednesday. Among those troopers are looking for are men accused of strangulation, sexual assault and aggravated assault. According to state police: John Watts, 32, is wanted for strangulation, simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment and was last known to be in the Johnstown area.Tucker Weems, 26, is accused of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person and was last known to be in the Lilly area.

'They're my brothers:' Altoona youth hockey team preparing to compete for national title

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — After winning a state championship, one local youth hockey team is now looking to become national champions next month. In their first year of being able to compete for a state championship, the Mid-State Mustangs took home gold in Pennsylvania, and now they will go on to compete for a national championship in April. In early March, the Mid-State Mustangs 14U hockey team won the Mid-Am Pennsylvania State Championship in Pittsburgh.

Bishop McCort's Bo Bassett ties state history

JOHNSTOWN, PA (WJAC) - Bishop McCort Catholic eighth-grader Bo Bassett tied history this weekend. Bassett won his 8th Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling state championship, a previous record held solely by Nico Cortese from Franklin Regional. Over the course of the three-day tournament, no wrestler went the full length against Bassett. The world champion defeated every opponent he faced by technical fall in the first period. In the first place bout on the 117 lbs mats, Bassett won 19-4 technical fall in the first period.

Bureau of Prisons not renewing Moshannon Valley Correctional Facility contract: Officials

PHILIPSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — The GEO Group announced Wednesday that the Federal Bureau of Prisons will not be renewing their contract for the Moshannon Valley Correctional Facility in Clearfield County. The contract, which GEO officials say generated about $42 million in annualized revenue, is set to expire March 31. The GEO Group is an equity real estate investment trust that specializes in designing and operating secure facilities processing centers and community reentry centers in the United States and across the world.

Treatment center strives to help thousands

Substance use disorder is an ongoing issue across the nation, including right here in the Commonwealth. This disorder not only takes an active toll on the user, but those surrounded by them. 6 News spoke to an official from a western PA based treatment center who says help is available. According to aStates Drug Enforcement Administration Report, almost 300,000 Pennsylvanians had an active substance use disorder this past year. “We definitely have been seeing numbers continue to increase and you know almost 300,000 people in the past year is a result of a lot of things coming together,” said Brooke McKenzie, the Chief of clinical care services with Dreamlife Recovery.

Woman accused of drugging, sexually abusing dog in Somerset County

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — State police say charges have been filed against a Fayette County woman after she reportedly drugged and sexually abused a male dog. Police say the incident reportedly occurred in early January at a residence along the 100 block of Paul Street in Casselman Borough, Somerset County. Troopers say 31-year-old Nikki Dillinger, of Connellsville, reportedly admitted to performing sexual acts on a male boxer while she was intoxicated.

Automatic voter registration now in effect in Pennsylvania

When Governor Josh Shapiro was running for election he made many commitments, one of them being that he would implement automatic voter registration - and he's done just that. Channel 6 spoke with the Secretary of the Commonwealth about this and he says this makes it easer to register to vote. “Applicants who interact at a PennDOT center location will be prompted to register to vote,” said Al Schmidt, the Secretary for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
