Unloaded BB gun found in child's lunchbox at Johnstown Learning Lamp, officials say

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Police were called to a Learning Lamp location on McKinley Avenue in Johnstown Friday after a child brought a BB gun to the child care center, according to a release from Learning Lamp CEO Leah Spangler. The release says staffers found the unloaded BB gun in the child’s lunchbox. Upon discovery, the release says, staffers immediately removed the BB gun and contacted police, who confirmed the weapon was unloaded and that no one was in danger.

Ford has issued two recalls affecting nearly 681,000 late-model Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans. The majority of those vehicles may have problems that affect their seatbelts, while a small number could have issues with their seat backs. Girl, horse killed in equestrian accident were training for championship event

HALFMOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — A young equestrian died in a horse riding accident Thursday morning in Centre County, officials said. Officials say Ashley Stout, 13, was pronounced dead at Mount Nittany Medical Center. The accident occurred at the Standing Ovation Equestrian Center in Port Matilda, just after 9 a.m. According to Standing Ovation's Facebook page, Stout's horse, Avant Garde, also died. State police in Rockview are continuing to investigate the incident.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department on Thursday formally moved to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug in a historic shift in generations of U.S. drug policy. A proposed rule sent to the federal register recognizes the medical uses of cannabis and acknowledges it has less potential for abuse than some of the nation's most dangerous drugs. The plan approved by Attorney General Merrick Garland does not legalize marijuana outright for recreational use.

Portland State University faces $750K in repairs after protest occupation of library

PORTLAND, Ore. — It could cost between $750,000 and $875,000 to repair Portland State University's publicly-funded Millar Library after it was heavily damaged and vandalized during a protest occupation earlier this month. Millar Library was occupied by pro-Palestine protesters who staged an occupation of the building in late April through early May. Community members and pets gather for Walk for Whiskers n Wags

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The third annual 1-Mile Fun Walk for Whiskers n’ Wags event took place Saturday. Pets and owners began their journey at 10 a.m. at the Johnstown Veterinary Associates’ building and completed the walk at the Greater Johnstown Middle School. Organizers said the goal for the event was to help local animal rescue groups while providing a great workout for the pets. The Johnstown Veterinary Associates hosted the event.
