Vietnam veteran receives honorary diploma at Altoona Area High School football game

A special ceremony took place during an Altoona Area High School football game this evening. The Highschool’s football team, the Mt Lions, as well as staff and students honored veterans who served our country during the game. During half-time the school’s principal presented an honorary diploma to Vietnam veteran, George Swartz. Swartz left the high school in February of 1968 during his senior year to enlist in the U.S. army. He served in Vietnam and tells us that there is one person he really wished could have seen him get his diploma.

Establishments in Altoona receive Warnings and Violations from the PLCB

ALTOONA, Pa — The Pennsylvania State Police Liquor Control Officers released the latest information on local violations and warnings during coronavirus mitigation efforts for licensee's. Officers visited 1,262 licensed liquor establishments from Friday, July 31 through Sunday, August 2. On July 15, Governor Tom Wolf signed an executive order requiring new rules and regulations for bars and restaurants. Alcohol must not be served without a meal, and restaurants and bars are only expected to operate at just 25% capacity.

Ex-Johnstown officer and convicted killer, Craig Knepper, reportedly granted parole

Cambria County, PA — A former Johnstown police officer, and current murder convict, Craig Knepper, is reportedly going to be out on parole, according to the family of the victim, Susan Burkhart/Fyock. Knepper pled guilty on Christmas Eve 2002 to avoid a life sentence. In June of that year, police say Knepper got into an argument with Fyock. They say he ended up shooting Fyock once in the leg, and once in the head, killing her.

Man spots mysterious figure in window of Gettysburg inn

ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — It's not everyday that something goes bump in the night, but when it does, you hope you can get video of it. Well one man did exactly that. Jim Barnhill was outside the Farnsworth Inn in Gettysburg when he spotted something out of the ordinary. A dark figure in a window, moving rapidly back and forth in the inn's attic. Barnhill says, strangely enough, that the inn has become a hotspot tourist attraction for paranormal activity, as many believe the site is haunted.

PA announces new Statewide Opening Day of Trout Season

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — Pennsylvania has a new statewide Opening Day of Trout Season, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission announced this week. Starting in 2022, the statewide trout season will open annually on the first Saturday in April. The PFBC made the decision during their quarterly business meeting Monday in Harrisburg. The change will offer a longer season to most anglers, said officials, while effectively eliminating the separate regional opening days for Pennsylvania’s 18 southeastern counties.

Wendy's manager allegedly created 'ghost employee' to steal nearly $20,000

LANCASTER COUNTY, Penn. (WKRC) — A Wendy's manager was charged after she allegedly created a "ghost employee" to steal over $20,000. According to Business Insider, Linda Johnson, a former general manager at a Wendy's in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, allegedly created a "ghost employee" named William Bright so that she could steal the wages. Per the outlet, Johnson manually logged 128 shifts for Bright at the location she managed.Lancaster Online reported that it was a task only the general manager could perform.

Man convicted of murder, served 12 years based on blind witness' testimony, files lawsuits

CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago man convicted of murder based in part on testimony from a legally blind eyewitness is suing the city and the police department. A judge convicted Darien Harris in 2014 in connection with a fatal shooting at a South Side gas station in 2011. He was 12 years into a 76-year prison sentence when he was freed in December after The Exoneration Project showed that the eyewitness had advanced glaucoma and lied about his eyesight issues.

Penguins broadcaster Mike Lange will NOT be in radio booth for start of season

Pittsburgh, Pa (WJAC) — Pittsburgh Penguins Hall of Fame radio broadcaster Mike Lange says he will NOT be in the booth for the start of the upcoming season, out of an abundance of caution due to the pandemic, according to a team release. 'I've decided to opt out of the start of the season after huddling with doctors about the course of Covid-19," said Lange, who will turn 73 in March.
