All charges dropped against former Westmont teacher accused of raping student

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer confirmed to 6 News that the second, and only remaining, criminal charge against former Westmont elementary school teacher Shawn Miller was dropped at the end of last year. The charge for Victim 2 was filed in May 2022, and accused Miller of another count of Indecent Assault of a child under 13 years old. As 6 News reported in July of last year, the charges against Miller for Victim 1 were dismissed.

Dubois Central, Johnsonburg win District 9 baseball titles Monday

DUBOIS -- Monday was a busy one for local baseball and softball. In District 9 baseball action, Johnsonburg captured the AA championship with a win over Kane, while DuBois Central did the same with a win over Elk County Catholic in Single-A. In softball play, DuBois Central captured the Single-A championship with a win over Clarion-Limestone, and Punxsutawney followed suit in AAA with a defeat of Karns City. Fire destroys multiple townhomes in western PA neighborhood

Cecil Township, PA — Investigators say at least four townhomes were destroyed following a fire in western Pennsylvania. Crews were called to the scene at Georgetown Estates, in Cecil Township, shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday. According to officials, the fire started in the garage of an end unit. Four townhomes were destroyed, while two others were damaged. People were home at the time of the fire, but everyone got out and there were no injuries reported.

Migrant charged with murder after fatal stabbing outside NYC shelter

NEW YORK CITY (TND) — A migrant fatally stabbed another migrant outside of a New York City shelter on Sunday after a "verbal dispute," according to the New York City Police Department. Oscar Gonzalez is accused of stabbing Argeyeris Martinez near the Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center in East Harlem. Gonzalez was charged with murder and aggravated criminal possession of a weapon. Both men lived at the shelter. The shelter is one of several New York City Mayor Eric Adams has used to house the nearly 200,000 migrants that have arrived since Spring 2022 while pleading with the Biden administration for help.

Steelers to bring back DT Larry Ogunjobi on 3-year deal

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — According to NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly reached an agreement to bring back defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi. The three-year deal is reportedly worth over $28 million, with over $21 million guaranteed. Ogunjobi signed a 1-year deal with Pittsburgh prior to last season, and played in 16 games, where he recorded 1.5 sacks and 48 total tackles Ogunjobi previously spent the first four seasons of his career in Cleveland, followed by one year in Cincinnati.

Lt. Gov, Penn State react to ongoing 'stalemate' over approval of state funding for 'non-preferred'

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — As the stalemate over the state budget continues, also still to be decided is the state funding for the upcoming school year for Penn State, Pitt, and two other universities. Last week, Pennsylvania Lt. Governor Austin Davis, a Pitt graduate, spoke at Penn State. Those two colleges, along with Temple and Lincoln, are known as state-related or non-preferred universities. Their state allocation annually comes through separate legislation that requires two-thirds approval in both the House and Senate, but this year, a group of House Republicans have blocked the non-preferred spending bill.

New owners of Indian Lake Marina offer more activities for public

CENTRAL CITY -- The Indian Lake Marina in Somerset County is under new ownership. It's a private lake available to hundreds of residents who live along the shore. And those in charge are now offering more activities for local residents. Some say Indian Lake has been a hidden gem since the early '60s. It's a 5-mile-long, 500 acre horseshoe shaped lake. "Never been a day here that hasn't been exciting in one way or another,” co-owner Ed Warshel said.

Rents grew faster than wages in 88% of US metros since 2019 amid affordability crisis

WASHINGTON (TND) — Rents have grown faster than wages in most of the country’s biggest metro areas over the last five years, adding to the squeeze on wallets consumers have felt since inflation skyrocketed during the pandemic and has remained above 2% into 2024. A Zillow and StreetEasy analysis found rents nationally have grown 1.5 times faster than wages since 2019 in 44 out of the 50 largest metro areas. Since 2019, rents have grown 30.

Swords, bow found during drug raid in Cresson Borough

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say two individuals are behind bars following a drug bust at a Cresson Borough apartment complex. Officials say on Tuesday, Cresson Borough police and the Cambria County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at the Keystone Ave. Apartments following an investigation into suspected drug activity. Authorities say the search led to the seizure of various drugs, including heroin, methamphetamine, Oxycodone and marijuana, as well as drug paraphernalia.
