STERLING, Va. (7News) — A firefighter is dead and several others are injured after several crews were called to the scene of a house explosion in Sterling, Virginia Friday night. According to James Williams, Assistant Chief of Operations for Loudoun County Fire, initial crews responded to a home located at 347 Silver Ridge Drive around 7:40 p.m. Once firefighters were inside the residence, the home exploded. Officials have identified the fallen firefighter as 45-year-old Trevor Brown.

Fire rages through Williamsport recycling plant for nearly 24 hours

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (WJAC) — A fire that broke out at a Lycoming County recycling facility has been burning since Monday afternoon, according to authorities. According to NBC affiliate WBRE, the fire began at the Penn Recycling plant in Williamsport sometime around 2:30 p.m. Fire crews were reported to still be fighting the flames into Tuesday afternoon. The flames broke out in a debris pile of old car parts. According to WBRE, the pile is four stories high and about the size of a football field.

6 inmates accused of killing fellow inmate at Texas jail

Jesus Torres, 57, was found unresponsive inside his cell at the at the El Paso County Jail Annex Monday night, according to an officials with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Laid-off workers host rally in Altoona

ALTOONA -- Department of Labor and Industry workers held a rally in response to being laid off, as a part of a statewide loss of 600 unemployment office jobs. The Altoona unemployment office is scheduled to close December 19, when more than 100 people will lose their jobs. "We already have our furlough letters. We will be shut down," said Dan McDermott, a laid off employee who was at the rally.
