Nittany Mall COVID testing site extends schedule as cases surge

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — In Centre County, not only are the number of COVID-19 cases increasing, but there's also been a sizeable jump recently in the death toll. County and health care administrators continue to call for more coronavirus testing. According to Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers, five county residents have died from COVID-19 since Thursday. It’s one of the reasons to extend the hours for a free testing center at the Nittany Mall into next month.

Case continued for Oakhurst shooting suspect accused of killing man, wounding woman

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — The suspect accused of killing a Hornerstown man and wounding a woman in a double shooting at Oakhurst Homes last September appeared in court Tuesday where his case was continued. In October, Jashon Gordon was arrested in Ohio in connection to the Sept. 22 shooting that claimed the life of 19-year-old Emerald Nugent Jr. Officials say Nugent died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.

On 45th anniversary of 1977 Johnstown Flood, risk of future disaster is growing

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — 45 years ago, Wednesday, the city that thought it would remain flood-free woke up to the sight of their city underwater again. 84 people died in the 1977 Johnstown Flood, causing $340 million dollars in damage to the Greater Johnstown area. In today’s dollars, that would equate to more than $1.6 billion. A deluge of rain that began the night before had inundated Johnstown, made worse by the failure of Laurel Run Dam, which overtopped and burst, sending 100 million gallons of water into the valley below.

PA Treasury working to return billions in unclaimed property

One in every ten Pennsylvanians is owed unclaimed property that could be worth thousands of dollars. That’s according to the State Department of Treasury, which is trying to reunite the valuable items with their rightful owners. Underneath the State Treasury Department’s Finance Building is the largest operating vault in the county, which contains billions of dollars of unclaimed property. The vault, used by the Pennsylvania Treasury, was built in 1939, where things like expensive jewelry and old war medals can be found.

Scene cleared after bomb threat reported at Hershey's Chocolate World

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Authorities have evacuated Chocolate World after staff reported concerns to 911 about a bomb threat.
